Hallyards Castle was a mid-17th C mansion with crow stepped gables and a stair turret projecting from one side. One of the corners was cut away in a curious fashion. A date above a window read 1630. It was enclosed by a courtyard.
It was ruinous in the late 19th C and had largely collapsed by the start of the next.
The sole remains are a few scattered stones near a sewage works not far from Edinburgh Airport, near the runway.
Another sad loss...
