Stoneypath Tower (East Lothian) Past & Present

Stoneypath Tower (East Lothian)

Stoneypath Tower (East Lothian)

Stoneypath Tower has been rescued from collapse and now forms an attractive dwelling house. Situated near Haddington it is an L-plan tower house of the 15th C with walls 9 feet thick at ground level. The entrance was at the first floor where a modern door has been inserted.

It must have had a turbulent history as there are signs that it was once blown up by gunpowder, no doubt during the wars of the 16th C.

It is heartening to see such an building rescued and adapted for modern use thus securing its future.
