Chance to tour Lickleyhead Castle (which is for sale)

Lickleyhead castle for sale

Lickleyhead castle for sale. Fancy a tour?

A north east castle which is on the market with a £1.35 million price tag, will open its doors to visitors this weekend, with children from a nearby school taking on the roles of tour guides.

Premnay Primary will hold a spring tea at Lickleyhead Castle at Auchleven before giving visitors the chance to look around the 16th century property.

Built in 1560, Lickleyhead Castle is currently owned by Candida and Sebastian Leslie, whose daughter Rose had a starring role as housemaid Gwen in TV's Downton Abbey before landing part in medieval fantasy drama Game of Thrones.

The family, who live in another nearby caste, are selling the A-listed property which they use for weddings and functions as it is 'surplus to requirements'.

It has passed through a succession of owners including Patrick Duff, the uncle of the Earl of Fife who reputedly had 36 children.

Former governor of Mexico City, Don Guillermo de Landay y Escandon, bought the property in 1922 for his daughter Maria Luz, who married into the Arbuthnot-Leslie family who still own it today.
